Jane's tastes run from the ordinary to the eclectic. She'll work on a wall altar one day, tea pots the next. Besides being a full time potter, she likes to exercise her mind, body and her pet springer spaniel, Rupert, with hikes around Nanoose Bay and the bays, beaches, hills and mountains on Vancouver Island. She is also an avid gardener and landscaper as her gardens are a testament to her skill, knowledge and familiarity with the local flora. The gardener and birder in Jane comes out in her garden lanterns, bird baths and fountains. She builds stoneware spitter fish and garden goddesses and wood or gas fires them for unique texture and surface effects. She also creates wonderful mushroom garden path lights that have either a frog or elf resting on the cap. Friendships with local dog breeders and dog aficionados has led to the creation of breed specific small dog sculptures ranging from 3 to 6 inches tall, with the coloration and character of the dogs rendered in Raku. She has also made Raku tiles for specific English Cocker Spaniels. If you have a good profile photograph of your dog, she can do a very reasonable representation of that same dog in Raku. Jane's spiritual quest has also been inspiration for her work. She crafts 'one of a kind' wall altars inscribed with Sanskrit verses and chakras with shelves for candles or incense. 'Om' and the character for 'Peace' are cut into the face of some of her candle lanterns. To Be Continued Links
